Pasture for Life

Our cattle are only fed the finest grass and pasture all year round. This means they are not fed anything other than what grows in our fields. No grains. No cereals. No soya. To guarantee your meat is 100% pasture-fed look for this certification mark:

pasture for life association certification mark

This is the Pasture for Life certification mark. It means as a customer, you can be absolutely certain that our meat is regeneratively produced to high welfare standards and with significant benefits to nature, the planet and your health.

By supporting Pasture for Life we are providing an opportunity for other farmers to learn from us about the benefits of farming 100% pasture-fed meat.

By buying from us you are helping to support the movement towards pasture-fed meat that is so vital to sustainability and mitigating climate change.

Raising animals like this is time consuming and much slower than conventional industrialised systems. This means that we don't always have everything available and you may see ‘out of stock’. But.. if you sign up to our mailing list we will tell you when we have fresh meat available.

Thank you for helping us in our mission to farm regeneratively and to continue to be members of Pasture for Life.

Pasture for Life Standards

High animal welfare

All certified farms must meet the requirements of the Farm Assurance standards, as a minimum. However, most of our producers choose much higher standards of animal welfare like RSPCA Assured, Animal Welfare Approved or Organic certification.

Natural diet

No certified animal is fed any form of grain or manufactured feeds. The animals must be able to graze pastures when the grass is growing in the fields. In the winter months they can be given conserved pasture in the form of hay or silage.

Wildlife-friendly fields

Pasture for Life encourages farmers to make the most of the wildlife and guidance is given on the management of grassland, meadows and most importantly advice to ensure minimal disturbance of nesting birds.

But why pasture-fed?

What does 100% pasture-fed mean?

Our animals are grazed on pasture all year around. Our fields contain a wide variety of plants that provide a wide range of nutrients. Plants you can find in our fields include wildflowers, clovers, herbs and legumes. By feeding the animals pasture, it means they forage for crops their entire life, and lead a happier, healthier life because of it. The meat that is produced in this way is healthier and tastier for us to eat than from animals fed on grain.

Why is it better for the environment?

Because pasture contains a wide range of plant life, it means that the biodiversity of the area is greatly improved. The farm is alive with insects, birds and mammals. This benefits the environment and produces far less carbon dioxide than farms that grow cereals to feed to their animals. Grassland captures and stores carbon so less is released into the air.

Is it better for the cows?

Animals kept outdoors in family groups raised entirely on pasture have very little stress, this has a direct impact on the health of the animal and the health of the meat. Cows have not evolved to eat grain, they are ruminants and need to eat forage to maintain healthy digestion.

Is it better for us?

YES! Meat from 100% pasture-fed animals has a lower total fat level than grain-fed animals, but more importantly lower saturated fat content. There are also higher levels of omega-3, vitamins and minerals. This meat is particularly rich in vitamins A and E, and minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.
